As the CBAM enters a decisive phase, policymakers face a choice between strengthening the mechanism so it delivers on its climate objectives and leaving loopholes that risk its effectiveness.
On 15 October 2026, Sandbag’s Adrien Assous had the honour of participating in a CBAM Implementation Dialogue organised by Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra.
At the meeting, Adrien stressed to Commissioner Hoekstra the importance of the CBAM as a source of revenue, both for EU firms and importers, as it allows the price of CBAM-covered goods to rise in the EU market. Other stakeholders present confirmed that this price increase is happening.
Sandbag thanks Commissioner Hoekstra and the European Commission for facilitating this constructive exchange on CBAM implementation as the mechanism moves into its next phase.
