CBAM Simulator 2.0

Explore real-world trade impacts of the EU CBAM using Sandbag’s data-based model

Our CBAM Simulator:

  • estimates CBAM fees per country, sector and even single products,
  • estimates the net cost of the CBAM, taking into account revenues expected from higher EU market prices for CBAM goods
  • simulates different responses of exporting countries, potential scope extensions of the CBAM
  • gives costs for each year from 2026 onwards, using the regulation’s methodology (SEFA) with CBAM benchmarks

If you have any questions about the assumptions, methodology, or calculations, you can find full explanations in the info buttons within the simulator as well as in the methodology  guide.

On 4 August 2026, we hosted a webinar to launch the updated CBAM Simulator alongside a report on the CBAM’s impact on India. During the webinar we presented a tutorial.

The CBAM dividend for Namibia and Ghana

This research note shows that Namibia and Ghana are likely to benefit from the CBAM, as EU price increases linked to the EU ETS outweigh CBAM fees under current exports. It also sets out transparent transformation scenarios, based on announced industrial projects, to show how expanded and lower-emissions production could further increase export revenues over time.
