European climate campaigner
Laurien Spruyt is European climate campaigner at Sandbag.
Previously she worked as a climate policy officer and spokesperson for Bond Beter Leefmilieu, the umbrella organisation of the Flemish environmental NGOs in Belgium. Before, she was responsible for coaching the extensive network of Bond Beter Leefmilieu to elaborate impactful strategies. From 2016-2018, Laurien chaired the Belgian Climate Coalition and coordinated national climate campaigns with civil society. As co-founder and campaign coordinator at Climate Express, Belgium’s first citizen climate movement, she organized a climate march of 14.000 people. In her college days, Laurien was student representative at Ghent University and founded sustainable student organisation d’Urgent. She holds a master degree in bioscience engineering from the University of Ghent and specialized in life cycle analysis and exergy analysis at the University of Montréal. Her colleagues describe her as a driven and enthusiastic changemaker, passionate by environmental policy and sustainable development. She loves to bring people together to act for the world we want to live in.
